जब हम भारत रत्न अटल बिहारी वाजपेयी जी के जन्म शताब्दी वर्ष के अंतिम चरण में खड़े हैं, यह क्षण केवल अतीत को स्मरण करने का नहीं, बल्कि भविष्य के लिए उनके आदर्शों को हृदय में संजोने और उन्हें जीवन में उतारने का है। अटल जी का जीवन भारतीय राजनीति की उस दुर्लभ परंपरा का प्रतीक है, जिसमें गरिमा, संवाद, संयम, सहिष्णुता और राष्ट्रप्रथम सर्वोपरि रहे। वे ऐसे नेता थे जिन्होंने विरोधियों को भी सम्मान दिया, असहमति को सकारात्मक बनाया और राजनीति को नैतिकता का पवित्र माध्यम माना।

उनकी विरासत आज भी हर भारतीय के मन में एक ज्योति की तरह प्रज्ज्वलित है, विशेषकर मध्य प्रदेश में—उनकी जन्मभूमि ग्वालियर में, जहाँ उनकी स्मृति जन-जन के हृदय में बसी है। भोपाल में स्थापित अटल बिहारी वाजपेयी हिंदी विश्वविद्यालय उनकी दूरदृष्टि का जीवंत प्रमाण है, जो हिंदी माध्यम से उच्च शिक्षा को सशक्त बनाकर देश की सांस्कृतिक आत्मा को मजबूती प्रदान कर रहा है।

मैं, डॉ. पंकज शुक्ला, ग्राम्य के संस्थापक, चेयरमैन एवं प्रबंध निदेशक, Association for Sustainable Rural Empowerment (ASRE) के अध्यक्ष तथा Karate Association of India के राष्ट्रीय उपाध्यक्ष के रूप में, अटल जी के ‘सुशासन’ के आदर्शों से गहराई से जुड़ा रहा हूँ। ग्राम्य और ASRE के माध्यम से हम ‘समृद्ध ग्राम, समृद्ध भारत’ के संकल्प को साकार करने हेतु निरंतर कार्यरत हैं। ग्रामीण विकास, महिला सशक्तिकरण, कृषि उन्नयन, पर्यावरण संरक्षण, स्वास्थ्य सेवाओं का विस्तार और युवा कौशल विकास—ये सभी प्रयास अटल जी की उसी दूरदर्शिता से प्रेरित हैं, जिसने ग्रामीण भारत को सड़कों, बिजली, जल और संचार की क्रांति के माध्यम से राष्ट्रीय मुख्यधारा से जोड़ा।

आज हम उसी दिशा में आगे बढ़ रहे हैं—ग्रामीण क्षेत्रों में डिजिटल साक्षरता, स्वरोजगार और उद्यमिता को प्रोत्साहित कर, ताकि विकास का लाभ अंतिम व्यक्ति तक पहुँचे। कराटे एसोसिएशन ऑफ इंडिया में मेरी भूमिका ग्रामीण युवाओं को अनुशासन, आत्मविश्वास, शारीरिक सुदृढ़ता और नेतृत्व गुण प्रदान करने की है। यह कार्य अटल जी के उस दृष्टिकोण से पूर्णतः जुड़ा है, जिसमें एक सशक्त भारत के लिए स्वस्थ शरीर और मजबूत मन अनिवार्य माने गए।

अटल बिहारी वाजपेयी जी का सार्वजनिक जीवन स्वतंत्र भारत के सबसे चुनौतीपूर्ण और परिवर्तनकारी कालखंडों से होकर गुजरा। 1950 के दशक से लेकर 2004 तक, उन्होंने राजनीति को सत्ता का खेल नहीं, बल्कि राष्ट्रसेवा का पवित्र दायित्व माना। उनका ऐतिहासिक वक्तव्य—“सरकारें आएँगी-जाएँगी, पार्टियाँ बनेंगी-बिगड़ेंगी, लेकिन देश रहना चाहिए”—आज भी भारतीय लोकतंत्र का नैतिक आधार है और यह हमें स्मरण कराता है कि राजनीतिक महत्वाकांक्षा कभी भी राष्ट्रहित से ऊपर नहीं हो सकती।

प्रधानमंत्री के रूप में अटल जी ने भारत को वैश्विक मंच पर एक नई पहचान दी। 1998 में पोखरण-II परमाणु परीक्षणों ने भारत की संप्रभुता और राष्ट्रीय सुरक्षा को अटल आधार प्रदान किया। इसके बावजूद, उन्होंने शक्ति का प्रयोग शांति के उद्देश्य से किया। 1999 की लाहौर बस यात्रा इस बात का प्रमाण थी कि सच्ची ताकत संवाद, विश्वास और साहस में निहित होती है।

उनके कार्यकाल में स्वर्णिम चतुर्भुज परियोजना ने भारत को भौगोलिक रूप से जोड़ा, ग्रामीण सड़क विकास ने गाँवों को शहरों से जोड़ा, दूरसंचार क्रांति ने सूचना का लोकतंत्रीकरण किया और राष्ट्रीय राजमार्ग विकास ने अर्थव्यवस्था को नई गति दी। मध्य प्रदेश में इन परियोजनाओं ने ग्रामीण अर्थव्यवस्था को नई ऊर्जा प्रदान की—किसानों को बाजार तक पहुँच मिली, व्यापार बढ़ा और लाखों परिवारों का जीवन स्तर बेहतर हुआ।

आगामी 25 दिसंबर को प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी जी द्वारा खजुराहो में केन–बेतवा नदी जोड़ो परियोजना का शिलान्यास तथा ओंकारेश्वर फ्लोटिंग सोलर प्रोजेक्ट का उद्घाटन अटल जी की दीर्घकालिक विकास दृष्टि का प्रत्यक्ष प्रमाण है। ये परियोजनाएँ मध्य प्रदेश के लाखों किसानों को सिंचाई, पेयजल और स्वच्छ ऊर्जा उपलब्ध कराएँगी। इसके साथ ही राज्य में 1153 अटल ग्राम सुशासन भवनों का शिलान्यास सुशासन को जमीनी स्तर पर और सुदृढ़ करेगा—यह अटल जी के प्रशासनिक स्वप्न को साकार करने की दिशा में एक महत्वपूर्ण कदम है। इंदौर में आयोजित ‘शून्य से शतक’ कार्यक्रम सहित राज्यभर के आयोजन उनकी शताब्दी को जनसहभागिता के साथ जीवंत बनाए हुए हैं।

अटल जी केवल राजनेता नहीं थे; वे एक संवेदनशील कवि और गहन विचारक भी थे। उनकी कविताएँ राष्ट्रप्रेम, संघर्ष, आशा और मानवीय संवेदनाओं से ओतप्रोत हैं। उनकी प्रसिद्ध पंक्तियाँ—“हार नहीं मानूँगा, रार नहीं ठानूँगा, काट के सदा आगे बढ़ता चलूँगा”—आज भी युवाओं को हर चुनौती के सामने साहस, संकल्प और दृढ़ता की प्रेरणा देती हैं।

आज के समय में, जब सार्वजनिक विमर्श में ध्रुवीकरण और कटुता बढ़ रही है, अटल जी का जीवन हमें यह सिखाता है कि असहमति को सम्मान के साथ व्यक्त किया जा सकता है, विरोध को भी रचनात्मक बनाया जा सकता है और राजनीति को नैतिकता तथा संवैधानिक मूल्यों से जोड़ा जा सकता है। उनकी शताब्दी यह स्पष्ट संदेश देती है कि विकसित भारत का सपना केवल आर्थिक प्रगति से नहीं, बल्कि मूल्यों, सहिष्णुता, संवाद और सुशासन से ही साकार होगा।

भारत रत्न अटल बिहारी वाजपेयी भारत की चेतना, लोकतंत्र और आत्मविश्वास में सदैव जीवित रहेंगे। उनकी जन्म शताब्दी हमें स्मरण कराती है कि सच्ची राजनीति वही है जो राष्ट्र को जोड़े, समाज को सशक्त बनाए और आने वाली पीढ़ियों के लिए एक बेहतर भारत का निर्माण करे। उनके आदर्श आज भी हमारा मार्गदर्शन कर रहे हैं—आइए, हम सब मिलकर उनके सपनों को साकार करने का संकल्प लें।

Today, December 19, 2025, as the nation stands in the final phase of the birth centenary year of Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee, this moment is not merely about recalling the past. It is a time for reflection, recommitment, and consciously carrying forward his ideals into the future. Atal Ji’s life represents a rare and elevated tradition in Indian politics—one rooted in dignity, dialogue, restraint, tolerance, and an unwavering commitment to nation first. He was a leader who respected opponents, transformed disagreement into constructive debate, and treated politics as a moral and ethical responsibility.

His legacy continues to shine like a guiding light in the hearts of Indians, particularly in Madhya Pradesh—his birthplace, Gwalior—where his memory is deeply embedded in public consciousness. In Bhopal, the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Hindi Vishwavidyalaya stands as a living testament to his farsighted vision. By strengthening higher education through the medium of Hindi, the university reinforces India’s cultural roots and affirms Atal Ji’s belief that national progress must be anchored in linguistic and cultural self-respect.

As Dr. Pankaj Shukla, Founder, Chairman, and Managing Director of Gramya, President of the Association for Sustainable Rural Empowerment (ASRE), and National Vice President of the Karate Association of India, I feel a deep personal and professional connection to Atal Ji’s ideals of good governance. Through Gramya and ASRE, we are committed to realizing the vision of “Samriddh Gram, Samriddh Bharat.” Our work spans rural development, women’s empowerment, agricultural advancement, environmental protection, expansion of healthcare services, and youth skill development—areas directly inspired by Atal Ji’s inclusive and people-centric policies that brought rural India into the national mainstream.

Today, we continue to advance along the same path by promoting digital literacy, self-employment, and rural entrepreneurship, ensuring that development reaches the last mile. Through my role in the Karate Association of India, I focus on nurturing discipline, self-confidence, physical strength, and leadership among rural youth. This aligns seamlessly with Atal Ji’s vision of a strong India built on healthy bodies, resilient minds, and responsible citizens capable of contributing meaningfully to nation-building.

Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s public life unfolded across some of the most challenging and transformative decades of independent India. From the 1950s until 2004, he consistently viewed politics not as a pursuit of power but as a sacred form of national service. His timeless declaration—“Governments will come and go, parties will rise and fall, but the nation must endure”—remains the moral foundation of Indian democracy. It is a reminder that political ambition must never supersede national interest.

As Prime Minister, Atal Ji gave India a renewed and confident identity on the global stage. The Pokhran-II nuclear tests in 1998 firmly established India’s sovereignty and national security. Yet, even while demonstrating strength, he emphasized peace. The historic Lahore Bus Yatra in 1999 reflected his belief that true power lies in dialogue, courage, and reconciliation.

His tenure witnessed transformational infrastructure initiatives. The Golden Quadrilateral unified the nation through connectivity, rural road development linked villages to cities, the telecommunications revolution democratized information, and national highway expansion infused new momentum into the economy. In Madhya Pradesh, these initiatives revitalized rural economies, enabled farmers to access wider markets, expanded trade, and significantly improved the standard of living for millions of families.

On December 25, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will further honor Atal Ji’s long-term developmental vision by laying the foundation stone of the Ken–Betwa River Linking Project in Khajuraho and inaugurating the Omkareshwar Floating Solar Project. These initiatives will provide irrigation, drinking water, and clean energy to lakhs of people in Madhya Pradesh. Simultaneously, the foundation laying of 1,153 Atal Gram Sushasan Bhawans will strengthen good governance at the grassroots level, translating Atal Ji’s vision of transparent and citizen-centric administration into reality. Programs such as Indore’s “Shunya Se Shatak” and other statewide commemorations have kept his centenary vibrant, inclusive, and meaningful.

Atal Ji was not only a statesman but also a sensitive poet and profound thinker. His poetry reflected nationalism, struggle, hope, and human resilience. His iconic lines—“I shall not accept defeat, nor engage in conflict; I shall keep moving forward, cutting through obstacles”—continue to inspire young Indians to face adversity with courage, determination, and optimism.

In an era increasingly marked by polarization and harsh public discourse, Atal Ji’s life offers a timeless lesson. Disagreement can coexist with respect, opposition can remain constructive, and politics can—and must—be guided by ethics and constitutional values. His centenary reminds us that the dream of a developed India cannot be fulfilled by economic growth alone; it requires values, tolerance, dialogue, and good governance.

Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee lives eternally in India’s conscience, its democracy, and its collective self-confidence. His centenary calls upon us to remember that true politics unites the nation, empowers society, and builds a stronger, more just India for future generations. His ideals continue to guide us even today—let us collectively resolve to transform his vision into reality.
